Biography

Dr. Sandeep K. Sharma is currently working as Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala, India. He obtained his B.E. in Mechanical Engineering (Gold Medal) from Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology, Patiala in 1997. He worked as Rotating Equipment Engineer with Engineers India Limited till 1999 and later joined Mechanical Engineering Department at TIET in 2000. He completed Master of Engineering in CAD/CAM & Robotics form TIET in 2005 Later he was awarded Ph.D. in 2014 in the area of Structural health monitoring. He also worked as Post-Doctoral fellow with Advanced Surface Machining research group at Waterloo University Canada in 2017 and 2018. 

He has published more than 20 articles in national and international journals and conferences. He has filed one Indian Patent on development of a customized PC based CNC controller system for 3-axis simultaneous interpolation for sculptured surface machining. Till date, he has completed number of research project sponsored by various Government of India Funding Agencies like Naval Research Board (NRB) and Department of Science & technology (DST). Till date (January 2023), he has supervised 32 Masters thesis and 3 Doctoral Thesis and two Ph.D.’s are currently underway. His areas of research include health monitoring of engineering structures, development of efficient Five-axis tool path planning algorithms for machining of sculptured surfaces and Synthesis and characterization of Polymer based Nano- composites for sustainable infrastructures.
