Biography

Dr. Vishal Gupta, presently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala, India.  He has 16 years of teaching and research experience. He did his PhD from IIT – Delhi in 2017.   Dr. Gupta has received the Gandhian Young Technological Innovation (GYTI – 2017) award at Rashtrapati Bhavan, Delhi (President's House). In addition to that, this work he has received a fund of rupees 15 Lacs. to develop a prototype of rotary ultrasonic bone drilling setup for the orthopaedic / trauma-related surgery from the BIRAC - SRISTI – GYTI. The developed technology was published for Indian Patent in 2021. During his Ph.D tenure, he also worked on the EPSRC-DST funded project titled "Modelling of Advanced Materials for Simulation of Transformative Manufacturing Process”. He has published 64 articles in international peer-reviewed journals/conferences and co-authored 7 book chapters. He has also delivered various guest lectures in various universities in the area of biomedical engineering. In addition to Dr. Gupta current role includes supervising master’s dissertations (7-completed, 2-ongoing) and doctoral thesis (2 completed, 3-ongoing). Apart from that he is also a reviewer to various international journals. His research area includes: Additive Manufacturing for biomedical engineering applications, advanced machining processes & biomedical engineering.
