Biography: Dr. Ashish Singla is a Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology (TIET), Patiala, with more than 20 years of experience in industry, teaching, and research. His research expertise spans flexible manipulators, underactuated systems, redundant manipulators, dynamics and control of real-time systems, and assistive/wearable devices. He earned his Ph.D. in flexible manipulators from IIT Kanpur in 2012. Over the years, Dr. Singla has built strong international research collaborations, having visited the University of Gävle, Sweden (2015), and the State University of New York (SUNY), Stony Brook, USA (2017) as a visiting faculty to advance research in wearable and assistive devices. More recently, in 2024, he was part of a three-member TIET delegation to UNSW, UQ, and UoW in Australia to foster collaborations in robotics research. Dr. Singla has actively contributed to the robotics research community. He served as Programme Co-Chair of the prestigious international conference Advances in Robotics 2023 at IIT Ropar. His research work has resulted in 27+ SCI journal publications, 45+ national/international conference papers and 12+ book chapters. He has successfully secured over ₹3 Crore in sponsored research funding from agencies such as DST-SERB and DRDO. A sought-after speaker, he has delivered 90+ invited talks at IITs, NITs, and other reputed institutes across India. Dr. Singla continues to drive impactful research through his national and international collaborations, contributing significantly to the advancement of robotics, control, and assistive technologies.
