Biography

Dr. Vishal Gupta, presently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical    Engineering at Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Patiala, India.  He has 14 years of teaching and research experience. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Punjab Technical University Jalandhar, India, and Master’s Degree from M.M.U. Mullana, Ambala.  He did his Ph.D from IIT – Delhi in 2017.  Dr. Gupta worked on a designing and fabrication of ultrasonic bone drilling during his Ph.D dissertation at IIT Delhi. He has developed novel orthopaedic / trauma bone drilling process to put an end to thermal injury to bone. The developed technique has been published for Indian Patent. He has been awarded by Gandhian Young Technological Innovation award at Rashtrapati Bhavan Delhi (GYTI – 2017) on the basis of his Ph.D work in the biomedical field. He has also been awarded by a Grant of Rs. 15 Lacs from BIRAC SRISTI GYTI Award to develop a prototype rotary ultrasonic bone drilling setup for the orthopaedic / trauma related surgery. Apart of that, during his stay at IIT Delhi Dr. Gupta worked on the EPSRC-DST funded project titled as “Modelling of Advanced Materials for Simulation of Transformative Manufacturing Process”.

He has jointly guided 04 M.Tech dissertations ( 3 are in the area of biomedical engineering) and currently supervising 03 doctoral theses and 01 M.Tech dissertation. He has published more than 20 articles in journals and conferences.  He is a reviewer to various international journals. He has also published one Indian Patent. Presently Dr. Gupta is working on two sponsored project as a role of PI & Co-PI in the biomedical engineering area.
